  • Golf Strength Training Exercise Is Not Body Building

    by: Mike Pedersen
Despite many reassurances, some amateur golfers still dread golf strength training exercises.

The problem would appear to be the presence of equipment like dumb bells in this sort of strength training. Not everybody is an exercise expert and therefore many people cannot tell the difference between body building exercise and strength building exercises.

The two are very different. They are so different that the difference can be compared to the difference there is between day and night.

Body building has got no part to play in golf strength training exercises. If anything this sort of exercise routine would damage a golfer’s game rather than improve it.

One of the effects of a body building exercise program that includes nothing else is that it causes the body to lose flexibility. Flexibility is very important in golf and that is precisely the reason why stretch exercises are a part of any good and genuine golf strength training exercise program.

In body building the emphasis is on lifting increasingly heavier weights so as to get the muscles to grow in size as quickly as possible. A body building program is usually rigorous and definitely not for everybody.

Muscle strength-building exercises using dumb bells are the exercises that are useful to golfers. Dumb bells play a huge role in golf strength training exercise programs. Only that the weight lifting program is very different from the one used in body building.

Much lighter weights are used and lifted up and down many more times than is the case in weight lifting. Still the sessions are much shorter than body building sessions.

Results have shown clearly that when this golf strength training exercise program is combined with stretch exercises, the improvement witnessed in any person’s game has to be seen to be believed. The results of golf strength training exercise programs are usually tremendous.

  • Functional Flexibility Is The Desire Of Every Golfer

    by: Mike Pedersen
Functional flexibility for golf is an important element. Quite often there are a lot of feelings of inadequacy, more so physical inadequacy, on the golf course.

Most golfers wish that they were a lot stronger than they are and yet still be able to have functional flexibility. Most golfers realize deep inside that flexibility and strength are important for good golf.

Yet these feelings and desire need not remain just that, any golfer can take action and dramatically improve on their functional flexibility and strength. Any golfer can ensure that the next time they set foot on the course to play their beloved game, they will be brimming with confidence and not inadequacy.

Actually both strength and functional flexibility go together and the two cannot be divorced from one another. Weak muscles will tend to be very stiff, the opposite of flexibility. So in other words, it is true to say that by building up strength, a golfer will almost automatically be improving their functional flexibility.

But let me make it clear here that there is a huge difference between building muscles and enhancing strength. When developing strength for golf, all good golf exercise programs will involve working with dumbbells which a lot of people associate with muscle and body building.

The truth of the matter is that in golf, dumbbells are used to build strength, and not muscles, by lifting much lighter weights up and down, more times than a bodybuilder does.

The sessions are also much shorter than those of a body builder who have to spend most of the day in the gym lifting extremely heavy weights to build their muscles. Actually it is true that building muscles will tend to bring in stiffness and the very opposite of functional flexibility.

A good golf exercise training program must also include stretch exercises which are a great help in attaining functional flexibility for golf.

It is the functional flexibility gained from weight training and stretches that can greatly improve the golf swing of any golfer. Actually the greater the functional flexibility for golf…the better the golf swings.

  • Fruits, juices, and food for relieving hemorrhoids part II

    by: rudy silva
Eating the right kind of food and following good eating habits will speed up your healing of your hemorrhoids. If you have a diet that is hard to digest and moves slowly through your colon, then, expect to have constipation which will encourage formation of hemorrhoids or prevent the their healing.

Here are some foods that will help give you relief from hemorrhoids

Use the following foods to help reduce hemorrhoid bleeding:

    ‘ Alfalfa
    ‘ Dark green leafy vegetables
    ‘ Blackstrap molasses
‘ Flax seeds ‘ are high in omega-3 oils, which reduce
inflammation and pain. They are also high in fiber.
‘ Lima and butter beans are high in iron, which help to
build more blood. If you have bleeding hemorrhoids,
adding lima beans to your diet would be a good
    choice.
‘ Sweet potatoes provide fiber, B vitamins, iron,
potassium and many other vitamins and minerals.
This is a good body building food.

If after trying different hemorrhoid remedies listed here for up to two week and your hemorrhoids do not have shrunk or go away, you
might consider seeing a doctor. You need to find out if your hemorrhoids exist because of a more serious medical condition.

See your doctor right away if you have a lot of anal bleeding, a lot of blood in your stools, heavy pain, or fecal incontinence.

    Ginger, Garlic, and Onion

Add these three herbs ‘ ginger, garlic, onions – to your diet. Each one of these helps to break down fibrin. As I mentioned before excess fibrin creates inflammation and blood congestion by trying to repair arteries and veins.

    Iron foods

Here are the foods that contain iron to help you build up
your blood or to keep iron in reserve, if you ever need it.

    ‘ Chicken liver, steamed crab
    ‘ Beef liver
    ‘ kelp
    ‘ Prunes
    ‘ Dried apricots
    ‘ Blackstrap molasses
    ‘ Spinach
    ‘ Sunflower seeds
    ‘ Pistachios
    ‘ Cashews, almonds, sesame seeds
    ‘ Baked potatoes
    ‘ Cooked Swiss chard
    ‘ Lima beans,
    ‘ Raisins
    ‘ Cooked broccoli
    ‘ Tuna

    Oils

At every meal, use olive oil, flax seed oil, and apple cider
vinegar in your salad. In your soups or other food dishes where it’s appropriate, use olive and flax seed oil.

At the end of each meal take your capsule of fish oil.
Fish oil is probably one of the most important oils to use
daily. Read other articles I have written on fish oil..

    Salads

Eat plenty of salads with raw vegetable. Vegetables and
fruits that you heated destroy their natural enzymes and turn calcium into an inorganic form. You body can’t process this inorganic form of calcium.

This excess inorganic calcium moves into body areas that
are sluggish and precipitates in these areas causing inflammation and disease. One area that can migrate to is the rectum where it activates
    the formation of hemorrhoids.

So eat plenty of raw vegetable sprinkled with apple cider vinegar, flaxseed oil, and olive oil.

There you have it. Plenty of food remedies that can give you temporary relief, reduce bleeding, reduce swelling, eliminate itching, and cure your hemorrhoids.
Rudy Silva has a Physics degree from the University of San Jose California and is a Natural Nutritionist. He writes a newsletter called ‘natural-remedies-thatwork.com’ and he has written an ebook called ‘How to Relieve Your Constipation with 77 Natural Remedies.’ You can get more information on this ebook and more hemorrhoid remedies at this site. http://www.hemorrhoid-remedies.for–you.info

  • Flexibility For Golf Will Not Be Lost With Weight Training

    by: Mike Pedersen
There is no doubt that body flexibility is extremely important for golf and to golfers. Little wonder that one of the biggest fears amongst many golfers looking to improve their game is that of losing their flexibility as a result of weight training that builds muscles and stretching exercises.

This is one of the reasons why many amateur golfers still avoid joining golf-specific exercise and conditioning programs. They mistakenly link every weight-training program with muscle building and bodybuilding.

Although it is true that muscle building and body building will tend to make somebody stiff, the facts are that weight training can either be used for body-building and building of muscles, or it can be used to build strength. The golf specific weight training programs are aimed at building strength and endurance. Not muscles. A genuine golf exercise program will have nothing in its’ weight training routine to remotely relate it to muscle or bodybuilding.

In fact stronger and conditioned muscles will tend to dramatically improve flexibility for golf, rather than reduce it. Flabby, weak, unexercised muscles are the ones that will tend to be very stiff and over time will take away the flexibility for golf in anybody.

Stretch exercises, which work best with strengthened muscles are very effective in helping to increase flexibility. These exercises usually have a major impact on the quality of the golf swing for most players.

Therefore it is not true that incorporating dumbbells into golf specific exercises makes a golfer lose flexibility. Rather the entire program plays a major role in enhancing flexibility for golf and the results from players who have tremendously improved their game, speak for themselves.

  • Exercise Smarter Not Harder – 10 ways to make consistent pro

    by: Greg Ryan Fitness Expert
My name is Greg Ryan. I am a fitness expert, professional bodybuilder personal, trainer to movie stars, and former employee of Kathy Smith. For twenty years I have been able to keep my body fat levels lower than most, and consistently exercise five days a week, and having fun in the mean time. Not because I am anything special, but because I have learned a few tricks along the way, that I would like to share with you. Start incorporating them into your plan today and notice the difference tomorrow.

1.Set a time limit on all your workouts. End the workout if you run over. 2.Exercise larger muscle groups before the smaller ones. I.e… Back, Legs and Chest before shoulders and arms. 3.Change your workout plan up every twelve to fourteen weeks. 4.Treat your time in the gym as if it is your most important time of the day. 5.Make the workouts at the beginning of the week harder than those toward the end of the week. 6.Take at least one day off a week from doing any form of exercising. 7.Change your cardiovascular equipment up each time you exercise. 8.Monitor your heart rate all the time. 9.Go over your workout in your head before you start. 10.Efficiency is more important than length. Have a number of reps in your head before each time you do a set.

These are just a few things I have learned over the years. Do not be afraid to try different things. Listen to your body and never be afraid to ask for help.

  • Diamonds in the Ruff – How to Find a Good Personal Trainer

by: Aaron M. Potts, ISSA CFT
The question of how to find a good personal trainer is as old as the industry itself. In fact, it usually gets transformed into an even bigger question – should you even HIRE a personal trainer? Conveniently enough, the answer to one of those questions will dictate the answer to the other one – every time!

The short and simple truth of the matter is that you should only hire a personal trainer if you can find an effective one that is right for you. Here are several things to consider before you decide!

    Professionalism

The term professionalism should cover our prospective trainer’s skills, as well as his/her ability to act in a professional manner. Both are critical to the training process, and if a trainer is lacking in either department, it will spell doom for your program eventually, either in the short term, or later on down the road.

The days of personal trainers just being jocks with a certification are (thankfully!) coming to a close. Today’s personal trainer needs to be a consummate professional with regard to his/her actual skills, as well as ability to treat their clients in a professional and business-like manner.

For now let’s just agree that if your trainer doesn’t have a clue about how to get you in shape, you probably don’t want to hire that trainer!

What about their level of professionalism? A good personal trainer will always maintain their professional bearing. They don’t need to be some stick in the mud with no personality, but there are several things that a trainer should NOT be doing during a training session. These include things like staring at themselves in the mirror, daydreaming, excessively talking to other people, talking on their cell phone, checking out members of the opposite sex, and just generally not focusing on you during the workout.

Your trainer should look professional as well. Although the actual clothing standards vary widely, some things that you should not see are excessive body jewelry, the latest fashions such as arm bands, beanie caps, combat boots, etc., or any clothing or accessories that are worn simply as decoration or because the style is in. The latest styles have absolutely nothing to do with your training program!

    Credentials

Which level of personal training certification is the best has been and continues to be a matter of extreme debate. This article will not propagate that debate with further discussion of the details. However, what you should take home is the fact that regardless of your fitness goals, your trainer should be qualified to train YOU.

For general health and fi2024s, any of the top 10 nationwide certification agencies offer acceptable programs. A brief list includes – but is not limited to – the International Sports Sciences Association, the American Council on Exercise, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. There are others, and your trainer should be more than happy to point you to the website that governs his or certification, so that you can learn more on your own.

For more specific considerations like training for a sport or athletic competition, your trainer will need a higher degree of expertise. The American College of Sports Medicine has a great program and is one of the most recognized certifications for sport specific training.

You should ask very specific questions about how a potential trainer is going to tackle the particular issues that you want covered during your training program.

    Facility

Regardless of your potential trainer’s credentials and professionalism, you need to know where you are going to train. The industry standard of only working out at a gym is being challenged more and more these days. It is possible now to find a trainer who will come right to your house and train you, or possibly meet you outside, or in your housing area community fitness center. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you have to go to the gym if you want a personal trainer!

    Schedule

One of the biggest issues for trainers and clients alike is scheduling. After all, you both have to be in the same place at the same time for a minimum of 30 minutes, and possibly as long as 90 minutes. A good trainer will try to find a way to fit you into their schedule. It won’t always be possible, especially with a highly sought after trainer, but if the trainer truly wants to help you, they will do their best to fit you in.

    Rapport

Having a good rapport with your personal trainer is crucial! If you and your trainer don’t get along, it’s a waste of time for both of you. You will likely end up more frustrated than ever, thinking that even a professional couldn’t help you!

Working with a personal trainer that you like is necessary, and on the flip side, the trainer should like you as well. You don’t necessarily need to pick out curtains together, but you should at least be able to carry on a comfortable dialogue while you exercise. Most good trainers are good communicators as well, but if the two of you aren’t very comfortable with each other, then it will cause tension and increase the risk of your program meeting with failure.

A good personal trainer will agree to meet with you face to face before you actually sign up for a training program. Some trainers offer a free or low-cost initial consultation, and that is the perfect time to size up your trainer to make sure they fit your needs!

You should take home the fact that the definition of a good personal trainer is someone who is not only a professional, but is also appropriate for your specific personality, needs, goals, and desires. You may be working with this person for awhile, so choose wisely!

  • Am I Gaining The Freshman Fifteen?

    by: Diana Keuilian
If you have ever found yourself pondering this question, you are not alone. Millions of freshmen across the nation struggle with weight gain each year as they adjust to college life, and quite often this weight gain comes as an unpleasant surprise as they return home and step on the scale at Thanksgiving or Christmas. So in this time when college weight gain has become almost as inevitable as term end finals how do you, the college student, know if you are gaining the freshman fifteen?

    1. Have the contents of your diet changed since entering college?
Calorie laden cafeteria food, greasy fast food, and cheesy pizzas often become staples in the diet of a college student. When you lived at home chances are that your parents served well-balanced, nutritious meals. Once arriving at college, however, your diet can skyrocket in extra fat and calories resulting in weight gain.

    2. Have you been eating more since entering college?
Buffet style cafeterias and late night snacks increase the total calories that you eat each day. When you consider the fact that one pound equals 3,500 calories, and extra 500 calories each day will be an extra pound gained each week.

    3. Has your activity level decreased since entering college?
Hectic class schedules, part time jobs, and social activities often dominate your days, leaving no time for the gym. You may have played on a sports team in High School or participated in some other organized activity that now has no place in your schedule. This decrease in activity will end up showing around your waistline.

Did you answer yes to one or more of the above questions? If so, then chances are that you are on your way to gaining the Freshman Fifteen. But wait! You don t have to follow in the footsteps of the millions of college freshmen who gain this unwanted weight each year. By making yourself aware of the causes of this traditional weight gain you have already won half of the battle.

To ensure that you don t gain extra weight, take control of your eating habits by eating nutritional, well-balanced meals and exercise regularly. For more information on avoiding college weight gain, visit www.AvoidTheFreshman15.com.

  • Defeating Back Pain Forever

    by: Jim O’Connor
By: Jim O’Connor – The Fitness Promoter August 21, 2024
    (c) Jim O’Connor / Wellness Word, LLC – All Rights Reserved

Back pain, one of the most common physical, and debilitating ailments today,
affects 70% – 80% of us at one time or another in our lives. However, as a result of the obesity
epidemic, that number continues to climb. So if you are suffering or have suffered from back pain,
    you are not alone!

Back pain suffers, resulting from wear and tear and the aging process, generally are over 40 years of age; but it is not uncommon for individuals in the 30’s to experience back challenges. The complex spine changes during aging at varying rates from individual to individual as determined by genetic factors, lifestyle choices, and prior injuries.

Just remember, the odds are in your favor that you will experience some sort of back pain in the future.
So what do you do when that happens, and how do you prevent it from happening again? There lies two, seventy two million dollar questions.

First off, don’t panic! Over 95% of back pain does not require surgery, and will subside on its own anywhere from a couple of days to months. With the back, it is rather tricky to predict how quickly it will heal. Be patient, and keep positive!

Please be aware that some2024onic back conditions such as spinal stenosis, spondylosis, and osteoarthritis may never completely heal without a physicians care. Symptoms generally come and go, and then come and go again, where the recipient learns to manage the condition with medication, exercise, physical therapy, spinal blocks, and/or surgical intervention. Treatment all depends on the severity of the condition as determined by the physician’s interpretation of the X-Ray, and/or MRI.

    Recovery Tips-

    1. Avoid motions that irritate it, but don’t stay in bed for days on end which will weaken you

    2. Ice for the first 48 hours, then apply a heating pad thereafter. 15-20 minutes at a time

    3. See your doctor if pain persists longer than 1 week.

    4. Follow pain medication recommendations (such as NSAIDS)

    5. Light massage, and pain free range of motion stretching

    6. Light walking (no hills) can help

    7. Physical Therapy- massage, electric muscle stimulation, ice, heat, exercise, stretching

    8. Pool therapy

    9. Don’t panic! Be patient! Most cases will get better over time.

    10. KEEP MOVING (pain free movement) is the KEY!

Now that you are managing your back pain, let’s focus on preventing it from occurring
again. Depending upon the severity of your specific back condition, you can decrease the chance
of returning pain, manage ongoing pain, or possibly prevent a reoccurrance. But HOW?

“The Secret Answer” – EXERCISE CORE MUSCLES in synergy with your particular condition.

Your goal should be to safely strengthen your core muscles to the max. The core muscles keep you upright, balanced, and able to maintain your spine in a stable position. The muscles that need to be worked are the back, legs, abdominals, and hips. By keeping these muscles strong, and flexible, it will provide a more secure base adding protection for a vulnerable spine. Warning: if you don’t strengthen your core, the older you get, the weaker your muscles become, and the more vulnerable you will be to pain.

When I mention exercise the core, I am referring to doing the proper exercises for specific conditions. It is impossible for me to tailor this prevention protocol for everyone, since each person needs their own specific program with medical team input. However, I will give you a few basic back strengthening tips. In correlation with your specific condition, you must clear specific exercises with your health care team.

    Prevention Tips-

    1. Stay active – use back smart exercises on a regular basis

**I will be listing specific back smart exercises in future editions of the multimedia Wellness WORD Newsletter.

To reserve your complimentary multimedia subscription, simply go, right now, to
    http://www.WellnessWord.com .

    2. While walking and exercising, maintain proper spinal alignment (good posture)

    3. Keep your weight under control

    4. Don’t smoke

    5. Strengthen your core muscles

    6. Keep the muscles limber and stretched

    7. Do cardiovascular exercise ( ex. walk) on a regular basis.

    8. Lift with proper form (use legs); proper spinal alignment

    9. Contract abdominals throughout the day to protect spine as well as strengthen supporting muscles

    10. Avoid the following:

    Straight leg sit-ups

Bent leg sit-ups during acute pain

Leg lifts (lifting both legs while lying on your back)

    Walking at a high incline

Lifting heavy weights above your waist (shoulder press, standing bicep curl)

Any stretches done while sitting with your legs in a V position

    Toe touches while standing

    Running or repetitive stair climbing

    Excessive spine twisting, and bending

My intention for writing this article is to inform you there is hope. You can get over back
pain, and do certain things to prevent it from returning, or returning with more intense symptoms.

Note: Please consult a physician for clearance prior to starting an exercise program.
